SICKLY SWEET SUBURBIA
A LOST RESORT
THE NOTION OF ROMANCE
'Perfume' - AW14. Hand knitted dress by Sally Louise Paine. Photograph by Samantha Wright. Retouching by Sally Louise Paine.
A project inspired by the film 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer', looking at the delicacy of ornate golden perfume bottles & how it mimicked the delicate lives of the women in the film, later contrasted with the dark twist of what Jean-Baptiste Grenouille mistook for an act of beauty within the film.
The colour palette uses soft feminine colours, which could be found glinting off of a glass perfume bottle & contrasts it with a feeling of uncomfortable passion, with a piercing gold & blue added to highlight details.
AW14 Collection & CAD flats. Colours starting soft & flattering, turning fiery & jarring. Silhouettes become a lot bolder, reflecting the hourglass perfume bottle shapes, with intertwining cabling details reflecting both the decorative bottles & the suffocating grasp Jean-Baptiste has on the women. The stature of the upper silhouettes are bold however, to create an air of confidence & empowerment for the wearer.
Garment # 5 from the collection. Hand knitted dress by Sally Louise Paine. Photograph by Samantha Wright. Retouching by Sally Louise Paine.
